Projects

As well as keeping a blog since the start of 2000, I’ve also created and collaborated on a number of projects, including:

  • Album Cover Challenge (currently undergoing a redesign, but still functional)
    Hundreds of albums with the pertinent information (name, band name, etc) removed via digital trickery. Can you identify them?

     

  • Anti-Valentine Cards (currently redeveloping the back end – will return very soon)
    Don’t say it with flowers: say it with bile. Now in its seventh year, these VD cards have proved extremely popular every February. What does that tell us about internet users, I wonder? In the meantime, here’s a FAQ

     

  • The Mayfly Project (back for 2008 due to public demand)
    Participants are invited to sum up the last year of their lives in just 24 words – using the constraint of brevity to focus on the important stuff.

     

  • ‘Tis the Season (advents only)
    The Pickard sisters (related, not nuns) take an irreverent look at the festive season. Definitely worth checking out the full archive for four years of advent anarchy.

     

  • Under Construction: (Re)Defining Culture and Community in Cyberspace
    In 1998, I wrote my MA Social Anthropology Dissertation about new forms of community and culture online. It all seems a bit dated, now, as you might imagine!

     

  • ickle.org (currently regenerating)
    A comprehensive guide to the tiny and wee things in life.

What’s all this, then?

This is a personal site, created and curated continuously since early 2000 by Meg Pickard, a creative geek, passionate photographer, anthropologist and web experience /community /social media specialist, who works for The Guardian & lives in London, UK.
 
The site includes a blog - a personal and evolving collection of links, opinions, thoughts, ideas, anecdotes and musings - as well as a variety of other projects. It is also a place to aggregate some of the author's distributed web activity, like photos, links and music.
