11.05.01BangThe good thing about living on the fourth floor of a building on a hill is that you get to see the explosions of fireworks across London, and close to your rooftops - closer than you're used to. The bad thing is that when your country happens to be at war, and you've spent the last twenty-odd years of your life dealing with terrorist threats and security alerts, every bang sounds like a bomb, every flash seems unnaturally close. But there is still beauty in the brief brilliant bursts.

03.21.01Moving StoryI haven't said much about the experience of moving house, because so much has happened to distract my attention since then. I've been meaning to write a big long account of the whole shebang, but somehow never got around to it....so here are some highlights, instead: The realisation that my room in the old place was actually quite big (once you took out the bookshelves, desk, computer, and all the other stuff). 03.20.01A tale of two utilitiesFollowing the kind of logic that can only exist in a post-deregulation economy, I found out yesterday (in the process of getting all the bills for the new place transferred into my name) that our gas is supplied by London Electricity and our electricity is supplied by British Gas. You just couldn't make this stuff up, could you? In other news, it's snowing. I'd just like to remind whoever's responsible for the weather (and under post-deregulation economy logic, that's probably the bus company or someone) that it's March? Supposed to be springtime? Sod this, I'm moving back to Spain.

03.16.01Elf scareGod I hate moving house. Everything is packed away in boxes and bags, and despite your best efforts to place everything in logical places, by the time you've moved everything you have no idea where anything is. I'm sure I packed everything logically - I'm absolutely sure of it. It's as if the goblins have muddled everything up while my back was turned. Those pesky goblins. 03.11.01SnapshotThis weekend has been utterly feh.
