Girl next door

I’ve noticed quite a few searches recently on this site by people looking for info about Girl With a One-Track Mind.

I *think* this is because Fridaycities recently published an interview with her, illustrated by a photo I took.

So, in the interests of disclosure: Girly One-Track is a friend of mine, and in April she asked me to take a series of shots of her which could be used for publicity. I whisked her down to the South Bank (stark architecture, interesting textures, interesting location which establishes her as a confident, modern, urban woman), took about 300 shots and later whittled it down to about 20 images.

Some of them are on my flickr photostream – see the set slideshow below (via the magic of this excellent wordpress plugin) or on flickr.

People keep telling me how fabulous they think these photographs are and all I can do is agree with them: they are beautiful shots, taken with a fantastic, creative eye, and I am eternally grateful for you shooting them, thank you.

I am one of those people who recently commented on The Girl’s blog about how lovely all these pictures are. Indeed, I also left comments on some of them two months ago. But I had only seen 5 of the pictures before and now there are 9. Are going to be lucky enough to see the remaining 11 of the 20 (or, dare I say the rest of the 200)? I am sure that even the ones you like less are still very nice. Or is it that each has to be published elsewhere before we can see them because the publications demand it?
Finally, a lovely smile, very nice hair, and excellent pictures!

I know I’ve already had my comment, but the breasts are nice too. Sorry – I am probably in the doghouse for saying that.

  4. Ignorminious says:

Ah I wondered who was responsible for the photo on the Fridaycities story :)

  5. Vicky says:

Meg – I’m getting a message ‘No such photos found’ on your slideshow.

  6. Meg says:

That’s weird – they are there…. anyone else having trouble with seeing this?

  7. Vicky says:

I’ve done a bit of Googling and it appears to be a problem for some Firefox users – odd, since I’m using Camino on a Mac! Anyway, I used the link you provided in the end.

  8. Pierre L says:

Found it! I would normally have written a private message, but this is too interesting. If I login to flickr and indicate that I want to stay logged in for a while but don’t have the flickr window open, then I get ‘no such photos found’ on the slideshow (but can see the pictures in their full glory on flickr). If I sign off flickr (not just close the window), the slideshow comes back.

  9. My visitors are getting it in Firefox but not Explorer. Using Firefox I can see your slideshow but in Explorer I get a big white box, just as some of my visitors are reporting.

  10. Got in touch with the developer and he sent a new download that works on IE7

Here is his message and the download site. Good luck

Thanks for the feedback! It seems object tag has problems with ie7. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t.

I’ve now replaced the object tag with iframe tag which seems to work both with firefox and ie7 and ie6.

You can download the iframe plugin here .
Alternatively, you can edit flickSlideShow.php and change object to iframe (of course, with appropriate changes).

    Hope this helps!Kumara

By way of explanation…

This is an individual post, which may not be very recent. For the latest stuff on meish dot org, please visit the main page.

By the way, I'm female. It doesn't have much impact on what I write about, or how I write, but I thought I'd point it out because so many people who link to this site seem to assume I'm male.

The clue's in the name: Meg. Like all those other female Megs.

What’s all this, then?

This is a personal site, created and curated continuously since early 2000 by Meg Pickard, a creative geek, passionate photographer, anthropologist and web experience /community /social media specialist, who works for The Guardian & lives in London, UK.

The site includes a blog - a personal and evolving collection of links, opinions, thoughts, ideas, anecdotes and musings - as well as a variety of other projects. It is also a place to aggregate some of the author's distributed web activity, like photos, links and music.

More info about this site and its author.

Important note #1

This is a personal site. The contents and opinions contained within don't necessarily reflect those of my employer, family, or cat. They think for themselves (though mostly about tuna, in at least one case), and so do I.

Important note #2

Since the overwhelming majority of content on this site is historical, it should be regarded in light of the context in which it was originally published, and not as indicative or revealing of current perspectives, preferences or experience.

Important note #3

While I work and spend a lot of time thinking and talking about social media, participatory technologies and community development strategies, the vast majority of content on this site is not about that.

This personal site isn't about anything, except the perpetual unfolding of one person's experience, and the perspectives, observations and opinions that involves and inspires.

You still here?

Oh.
