    Oooh I get first comment.

Well done. What a great opportunity. Go you. I look to seeing great things happening at the Guardian.

    Congrats again.

  2. Clive says:

    Good news!

Guardian is already a good site - I look forward to it getting even better now.

  3. Lyle says:

    Congrats, again.

  4. Chz says:

    Congratulations!

  5. graybo says:

Congratulations. Does this mean that you will, in future, always spell Grauniad correctly on me(ish)?

  6. simon says:

Well done thee. I have no idea what the job means but it’s still jolly good.

  7. frisky? says:

hah! weird. I’ve been following your blog for a while and didnt know you worked at AOL! I do as well…

Have fun in your new gig!

  8. Vicky says:

Congratulations, Meg - sounds as if it’ll be a good move for you.

  9. Sam G says:

Wow - after 9 years you must be going to miss the old place. What achievements are you most proud of?

  10. Andrew says:

Horrah! - About time that the Grauniad’s new meeja site had someone with a brain…that’ll be YOU !!

It is, after all, the s(h)ite that has so much potential, but no stickyness … ’cause it changes flavour and tone so often that inconsistency rules….but not for long I hope.

    Congrats.

  11. asta says:

    Cheers and congratulations.

  12. Tim Beadle says:

Ah - so it *was* AOL (I thought as much). Was the pub the one just up Brook Green from Hammersmith Road? I had my CS/AOL leaving do there in 1999…

Congrats on the new job. Does that mean you’re Ben Hammersley’s boss?

  13. Tim Beadle says:

    pub:name=The Queen’s Head :)

  14. Pat Kelman says:

Bizarre - news travels even faster - I read it in Private Eye on the way home from the theatre last night.

It’s in the “Birtspeak 2.0″ section on page 11.

Congrats Meg. The old place didn’t deserve you.

  15. Luke says:

Ah, excellent - such good news!

By way of explanation...

This is an individual post, which may not be very recent. For the latest stuff on meish dot org, please visit the main page.

By the way, I'm female. It doesn't have much impact on what I write about, or how I write, but I thought I'd point it out because so many people who link to this site seem to assume I'm male.

The clue's in the name: Meg. Like all those other female Megs.

What's all this, then?

This is a personal site, created and curated continuously since early 2000 by Meg Pickard, a creative geek, passionate photographer, anthropologist and web experience /community /social media specialist, who works for The Guardian & lives in London, UK.

The site includes a blog - a personal and evolving collection of links, opinions, thoughts, ideas, anecdotes and musings - as well as a variety of other projects. It is also a place to aggregate some of the author's distributed web activity, like photos, links and music.

More info about this site and its author.

Important note #1

This is a personal site. The contents and opinions contained within don't necessarily reflect those of my employer, family, or cat. They think for themselves (though mostly about tuna, in at least one case), and so do I.

Important note #2

Since the overwhelming majority of content on this site is historical, it should be regarded in light of the context in which it was originally published, and not as indicative or revealing of current perspectives, preferences or experience.

Important note #3

While I work and spend a lot of time thinking and talking about social media, participatory technologies and community development strategies, the vast majority of content on this site is not about that.

This personal site isn't about anything, except the perpetual unfolding of one person's experience, and the perspectives, observations and opinions that involves and inspires.

You still here?

Oh.
