Anti-Valentine Cards: breaking down

In case you come over here wondering what’s going on with the VD cards:

Basically, we’re having some issues balancing the load on the server because the site’s suddenly getting floods of traffic from all sorts of places.

We’re doing our best to get it up and keep it up (oo-er, missus), but service may be intermittent. But hey, you get what you pay for in this life - and the cards cost nothing. Which means…well, we’re doing our best.

For the record, I just want to point out that my hosting company, Pair.com are being very helpful (as usual), but it’s always going to be hard to keep the site running smoothly (without a dedicated server) when it suddenly gets a ton of people hitting it at once and all sending mail. At once.

Guess this proves how strongly people feel about it, eh?

Update, later:
The lovely people at Pair have moved the site onto a dedicated server, where it’s still getting thrummed.

Update, later still:
You know those awful posby “Love Is…” cartoons featuring a rotund naked couple doing cutesy things for each other in the buff, like unblocking the sink or, oh, I don’t know, not minding that the football’s on telly or whatever?

Well, I’ve got in mind an idea for another one:

Love is….optimising your wife’s anti-valentine card site when the server b0rks and doing crafty things with code which make it sing again, despite having spent much of your free time over the last few weeks cobbling it together.

Except not naked.

Ladies and gentlemen, let it be hereby known: Paul. Rocks.
