Given that we’re now definitely well into February, I thought it was about time we brought back the biliousness of the season, in the form of the infamous Be My Anti Valentine site, now back for 2007. Huzzah.

Still full of snarky, sarky cards to send to your loved ones and people you know, it’s much the same as the site you may remember from years gone by, only this year (hopefully) with added stability.

Massive kudos and a cast-iron promise of precisely NO pukesome pastel toys holding heart-shaped signs saying “wuv oo!” in Comic Sans to the lovely geek I married, for doing devious things with servers, perl and CGI, which I think is above and beyond the limits of the marriage vows. Rock on.

Also this year, no more ads. They were ugly and irrelevant anyway – Google seemed curiously unable to tell the difference between a Valentines site and an ANTI-Valentine’s site, and believe me, there’s quite a difference. If we need to shore the server up, or placate the lovely people at Pair, there’s still an option to donate, should people feel so inclined.

Media-wise, I’ve done a couple of interviews already (one radio, two newspaper) and I’ve prepared a fairly detailed FAQ for anyone needing to understand what this is all about.

So, with the sound of Paul shouting “ooh, there’s another one” from his study as he watches the database count tick over, I’m going to sit back and see what happens. Let the fun begin.

And for, I think, the fourth year in a row, I’ll be heard to mumble to myself… ‘wish I’d thought of that’.

  4. CowTown says:

You might need to update the Happy Tuesday one for 2007

  5. Meg says:

@CowTown: There’s a “Happy Wednesday” one in there, too, down near the bottom (they’re in alphabetical order).

In fact, in the spirit of not needing to wait for one particular day to say anything to anyone, I might make cards for each day of the week…

Another year! Can we see a counter or do we get a post event Flickr hosted graph looking like a advanced ski jump again?

    What about a Birthday one?:
“You’re right, having your birthday on Valentine’s Day IS much worse than working out you were conceived on it.”

Its so cold the server shouldn’t overheat.

  7. El anti-consumismo también es un buen negocio

A propósito de la celebración del Día de San Valentín o Día de los Enamorados, noté que hay creciente crispación y rechazo en relación al caracter comercial de esta celebración (algo que no ocurre con la misma intensidad con otras).

By way of explanation…

This is an individual post, which may not be very recent. For the latest stuff on meish dot org, please visit the main page.

By the way, I'm female. It doesn't have much impact on what I write about, or how I write, but I thought I'd point it out because so many people who link to this site seem to assume I'm male.

The clue's in the name: Meg. Like all those other female Megs.

What’s all this, then?

This is a personal site, created and curated continuously since early 2000 by Meg Pickard, a creative geek, passionate photographer, anthropologist and web experience /community /social media specialist, who works for The Guardian & lives in London, UK.

The site includes a blog - a personal and evolving collection of links, opinions, thoughts, ideas, anecdotes and musings - as well as a variety of other projects. It is also a place to aggregate some of the author's distributed web activity, like photos, links and music.

More info about this site and its author.

Important note #1

This is a personal site. The contents and opinions contained within don't necessarily reflect those of my employer, family, or cat. They think for themselves (though mostly about tuna, in at least one case), and so do I.

Important note #2

Since the overwhelming majority of content on this site is historical, it should be regarded in light of the context in which it was originally published, and not as indicative or revealing of current perspectives, preferences or experience.

Important note #3

While I work and spend a lot of time thinking and talking about social media, participatory technologies and community development strategies, the vast majority of content on this site is not about that.

This personal site isn't about anything, except the perpetual unfolding of one person's experience, and the perspectives, observations and opinions that involves and inspires.

You still here?

Oh.
