Time

Twenty years ago this month, in 1985, I started secondary school.

Fifteen years ago this month, in 1990, I flew to Canada to take up my place at an international college on the West coast where I would study for two years.

Ten years ago this month, in 1995, I flew out to Bolivia at the start of a year of fieldwork, a year which would change almost everything.

Five years ago this month, in 2000, nothing special happened. I was working in London for the same broad company I still work for, albeit in a very different role. I had just completed an 8 month long project, and was writing for an online portal, setting up a new department, living in Kilburn Park (we pretended it was Maida Vale) and blogging.

Today, I’m still with the same company, though a different bit. I’m married and have a cat. I’m stressed a lot of the time. I daydream about doing something else, being somewhere else. I’m not sure that I would revisit any of the points listed above, though.

September has always been a turning time - probably because of the academic year, as well as the season. This year, I will not be turning with September.
