A year and a day

Not sure if I’ve posted this picture before. That’s us, on 5 March last year, celebrating our wedding day with a kiss under the Tyne Bridge.

I love this photo. I love the lighting, and the way the bridges span the sky. I love the fact that, as wedding photos go, it’s not pukesome. It doesn’t dwell on the happy couple - we know what we look like, thank you - but sums up the whole day for us. A chilly day in March. A busy cosmopolitan city. Bridges, bringing people together. At the middle of it all, just us, unconventional and alive, lost in each other.

We’ve had a lovely weekend, celebrating our first anniversary. A year and a day ago, Paul and I were enjoying the best day ever, and as I wrote recently to a friend, I’ve had the best year, since.

It has been a staggering year for us both - challenging in bits and blissful in others, with a lot of happy business (or busy happiness?) in between. We’ve had new jobs, various illnesses, a family crisis or two, some stresses, several journeys, new additions to the family, driving lessons, happy days of swimming in the sea and a series of celebrations with friends and family for birthdays, weddings, and more. I hope this sets us on a good course for the coming years of married life.

Bring it on.
